BIO

Julia da Mota (Brazil, 1988) lives and works between São Paulo and London. She received her Master's Degree in Visual Arts from the University of São Paulo (USP) and earned a B.Arch degree from the University of São Paulo/ENSA-Paris La Villette. Drawing inspiration from Minimalist Abstraction and Brutalism in architecture through painting and printmaking, Da Mota explores relationships between color, form, and matter to create works that come from a phenomenological approach towards space, as well as from her intimate experiences. In 2021, she attended a residency program at Pivô, São Paulo, one of the most prominent in the country. In 2019, she was a Project Keyholder at East London Printmakers, UK, and an artist-in-residence at Lava!, Residência foNTE/, São Paulo. In 2018, she was part of LAMB Projects’ Billingbear Farm Residency in Berkshire, UK. Her work has been featured in exhibitions in São Paulo, Ribeirão Preto, Belo Horizonte, Blumenau, London, Alijó in Portugal and Chamalières, in France. Her works are present in collections in Brazil, UK, USA, Argentina, Portugal, Australia, and France.
